NEC Conducted a Series of Workshops For Ministry Officials to Develop The Medium Term National Economic Plan For Sri Lanka For 2020 – 2024.

After completing the initial discussion on Medium-Term National Economic Plan for Sri Lanka 2020 – 2024 with Secretaries and Senior Officials of all Ministries, Expert Teams were appointed by relevant Ministries for each cluster to work with the NEC.

The NEC of Sri Lanka has then conducted several workshops for the subject experts in all clusters.

Accordingly, 07 Workshops have been conducted covering 18 clusters, by Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara, Deputy Secretary General (Financial Affairs) and Mr. C.J.P. Siriwardana, Deputy Secretary General (Economic Affairs) of National Economic Council, during the period from 21 August 2019 to 19 September 2019 at the Auditorium of the National Economic Council of Sri Lanka, 12th Floor, West Tower, World Trade Center, Colombo 01.

218 officials representing all relevant ministries participated in these 07 workshops as subject experts representing the following  clusters;

The guidelines for preparing the Medium Term National Economic Plan were presented by  Prof. Harendra Dissabandara, at these workshops by gathering all the information related to all clusters. The participants were trained on using the ‘SWOT Analysis/ Gap Analysis’ by taking strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in each cluster as a base analysis in order to maintain the uniformity of analysis across all clusters and to develop the separate medium-term cluster plans.

Accordingly, all cluster experts were instructed to submit the recent developments, current status and cluster priorities as the first step of the plan which will be used to develop the second step of the plan to be scheduled to be discussed at the second round of the workshops beginning 14 October 2019. The National Economic Plan is scheduled to be finalized by December 2019.
